Double Road Trips

Your Kansas City Blues completed a task that many clubs across the country do not have the numbers nor the organizational structure to pull off, the double road trip.  The work and planning it takes to take a club team on the road is layered, from renting vans and booking hotels, to putting together available rosters, to the logistics of when the vans will leave and from where.  Then, do that twice to two different locations with two entirely different rosters and two separate coaching staffs.  It takes work and it takes dedicated board members, volunteers and supporters to pull it off.

In a perfect world the time and dedication given by those supporters is paid back with road wins coming home.  The return on investment is seeing the Kansas City Blues victorious on the internet stream or the score graphic.  Unfortunately, we could not give our supporters that pay back this week.  With D1 falling to Chicago 52-10 and D2 to Omaha 50-5.  Shuki Konishi chased down a grubber from Arley Urratia for the lone try  with a kick for points by Callum Smeaton rounding out the scoring for D1 and Joell Pierre charting the try for D2.

But as they say, this world of ours is an imperfect one and thus we need to voice our thanks to our supporters. To the president who has to take a phone call Friday morning to answer whether we want the extra rental car insurance, to the board member who called around to reserve the vans and the hotel rooms, to the treasurer who received texts all weekend with receipts for gas and parking and has to log all that into the books.  The infrastructure of the wheels that turn the club normally make no noise, they don’t squeak when they don’t get attention, they just keep turning and pushing the club vehicle forward. And the coaches who put in the time and the effort and the mental energy it takes to put the team together.  And the players for putting it on the line.  Thank you to all who make it possible for us to pull off a double road trip.

A bye week for the D1 and a home game for D2 against the Arkansas Gryphons await this weekend with a double home game next.  There is plenty left in store for the Blues this season.  Onward and Upward!
